“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
Learning to trust God more deeply empowers us to view every event as an opportunity to grow in trust. Sometimes it seems like God doesn’t hear us over the ever enormous amount of prayers he is receiving from all over the world. I am actually picturing him standing in his awesomeness and millions of faces are swarming like bees with prayers at the same time. Do you see it with me right now?
The difference between the personal God of the bible and all other so-called gods is that our Lord is “near us whenever we pray to him”. (Dt.4:7)
Surely, you have sometimes prayed and felt that your prayer has not made it past the ceiling. Sometimes, God is silent when we harbor sin in our lives. The psalmist understood that the Lord would not listen to his prayers if he cherished sin in his heart (Ps.66:18). I see this at times when I am selfish and or WANT it my way and try to also create MY OWN PLAN…my will, not His. You already see the problem here, don’t you?
Hmmm. Like a child who wants that candy before dinner time, or won’t clean their room before starting the online game with a friend and throws a fit because they can’t get what they want right now! I too, want it my way now! I want to be in control! I believe God is faithful, but I often second guess his competency. That’s why I throw myself in the middle of situations where I don’t belong. Open my mouth when I should bite my tongue. Snatch the steering wheel when I should be content to ride shotgun.
Dallas Willard challenges us to search high and low for the “Competence and faithfulness of God”. Create a prayer that allows you to be persistent and ask God to be faithful and just. God, a just judge who cares for us – will see to it that our needs are met, but we must exercise faith in his sovereign goodness. His will and time, not ours.
When I pray asking God to do his will, and I give Him all of me to work in and through me and then fully trust Himto provide. I see beautiful changes happen that are all at the exact right time. Again, not exactly the time I wanted it, but the right time and the right way, all things just fell into place. Waiting patiently and trusting Him in all things.
Woman to Woman: Create a prayer that allows you to be persistent and ask God to be faithful and just.
