But if someone doesn’t provide for their own family, and especially for a member of their household, they have denied the faith. They are worse than those who have no faith. 1 Timothy 5:8  (CEB)

Family is one of the very best and most important things in life.  We only get one life to make a difference in our children and they learn so much from us in just how we perform throughout the day.

I like to stay very busy. A couple weeks a ago I was preparing for a trip to Arizona to go visit my daughter and her family. I was going to be helping by watching my grandbabies while she and their dad were working during the day.

While I was preparing for my trip, I prayed one morning asking our father to give me clarity, focus and really amp up my organizational skills so that I would be ready for my trip. But when he spoke into my heart he said, “today you will only make Duck Fried Rice”. I paused and I looked at my list, it was a big list of things to do and yes, duck fried rice was on it, but that was dinner and I had much more to do. Then, I noticed my husband was calling. He mentioned he had gotten the Duck and had put it in the fridge the night before. Great! I’ll get right on that today. He then said he would be home shortly to help.

When he arrived, I had the kitchen prepped, we cut up all the veggies together whileCrowder and a few others played some of my favorite songsin the back ground. Tim, my husband cut up the duck. I then began sautéing the duck and onions and herbs in olive oil while the rice was cooking in the rice cooker.  My son Jake showed up and asked how he could help.

I instantly put him to work and together as a family we made Duck fried rice for the first time. When the meal was ready, we all sat at the table and said grace, our tradition for grace is to each thank the Lord for something that day. My son and husband both thanked the Lord for the “time we had been given together to make duck fried rice.” I too was thankful for duck fried rice.

Later that evening, I decided to take a bowl to our neighbor who lives alone. His wife had passed away a few years ago. He was so happy to see me stop over and was more excited to try what was in the bowl. I saw him two days later and he told me that he really needed that and loved the duck fried rice, but most of all that he loved that he had new neighbors like us who were so thoughtful and caring.

God knows exactly what we need, sometimes what we need is to pause and just do the ONE important thing that can make a life changing impression. Mine, was Duck Fried Rice. It brought my son, my husband and I together for an evening of meal creation and time talking about baseball, friends and how good Duck was in fried rice. It also brought a friend closer to our family and made his day.

Woman to Woman: What is God speaking into your heart about what you need to pause for? Take that moment and make it count. Make a comment here on or FBpage and let us know what that was. Share! So that we can all learn from you.

WoW (Words of Wisdom):  Strength of Responsibility –

People who are especially talented in the Responsibility theme take psychological ownership of what they say they will do. They are committed to stable values such as honesty and loyalty.

Martha, Martha, “The Lord answered, “You are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed- or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” ~Luke 10:41-42
